In 2004 Peter and Christine, who live in Medland Manor, thought that an adjacent walled garden might be an exciting site for a very modern and different house. There was a staff cottage near the walled garden and the Planners agreed that if this was turned into a garage/store then we could build a new house in the country (something that the planning guide lines do not normally permit).

The construction of the Garden House began in May 2005 (pictures clockwise from top right).

The build took about one year and was project managed by Peter and Christine.

The architect suggested that Grand Designs (the Channel 4 TV programme) might be interested in filming the build - indeed they were, and in fact we had over 20 visits by the film crew.

It was an interesting experience although the film crews presence did slow up work on occasion.  The work finished in May 2006 and the film was shown on the 17th May.

There is a detailed photo journal of the build progress over at the Medland Manor website.
